Default Mixed emotions at my house this morning

I sold my early 28 Business Coupe. Owned it for 34 years. Showed it in Wisconsin in 1986 at the first World Meet. Only driven it 3100 miles since. When the new owner came to see it the first time he said "I talked to people about those AR's and they said stay away because the parts are hard to find". Told him those parts were already on the car. Most anything he can wear out will be replaceable with repro parts.

Even gave him 2 wheels, the tool set in a display case, a set of carry tools and another AR crank, 2-1/2" shaft starters, a new bendix, water pump housing, an original LF fender (needing a lot of work) and a really nice round tube original radiator that would work for show but not for driving. I had recored the one I had for show because I could only drive 35 mph before old faithful went off.

Really hated to see it go but................ Even gave him the trophy,

I attached some pictures.

John,
Nice looking Business Coupe.... I remember the '86 World Meet well. We had a tornado we evaded driving there in norhern Ill, and when we got to the meet it was great. Over 800 Model A's if I remember, and the Mandatory tour was cool with the massive amount of A's. The memories count more than miles. We are all just caretakers of these.... and it looks like you did a splendid job at that.

Best Regards,
Larry Shepard

Very nice looking.

Out of curiosity, why after 34 years did you sell??

Hi John,

Something tells me you may have felt somewhat comfortable selling it to this guy who appeared to appreciate true quality.

Nice business coupe. I know how you must feel, I bought my special coupe in 1981, sold it once, bought it back and would have mixed emotions about selling it again.
I'm sure the new owner of yours appreciates what he has and you have been a good caretaker.

I just felt a good about the guy buying it. Felt he won't start changing things but keep it like it is with some TLC which it needed.

I looked for a '28 54A for ten years and couldn't find one where the price and condition matched. I really wanted a '29 with the oval windows, but I'd never even seen one of those, so they were off my list.

Wellsir, three years ago a '29 shows up just ten miles from home, nice condition, right price. I buys it. (See avatar)

These cars become part of the family, at least mine do. I don't think I'll ever part with this coupe. But I understand how guys' lives change, and if, like Mr. Stone, I sold any one of my A's, there would be some mixed, even sorrowful, feelings in my house. Or at least in my garage. My wife isn't quite as attached.

several years ago I sold my black 29 coupe to a museum. They had it for 5 years when I was able to buy it back, for a lot more money than I sold it for. I'm happy though as it's the same car, with the same mileage it had when I sold it. I've been driving it some and collected a few more trophies, including a best of show at the Northern calif. regional meet.

John I have felt your sellers remorse and its a hard thing to sometimes shake. But unless it was a just spur of the moment I think iI will sell the car, you have been feeling it was just time to let it go. Tomorrow you might find something to replace it with or you might go car less for a while or even forever. Congrats on a beautiful car and hopefully the person that you sold it to will keep the same stewardship up as you have done for all of these years.
Sometimes after the sale of a car that you had forever another just shows up out of nowhere and it all starts again,

It was not being used like a Model A should be. Needed a good home where someone will drive and enjoy it. Also, have 4 other cars. May have to start down sizing more.

If you notice my avatar, you can see that was only 25% if the fleet. I have added a 31 slant town sedan since the picture was taken. You guys can't get rid of me that easy.
