Default Half amber tail light lens

I just received repo tail light lenses from a few reputable suppliers. The amber portion is light yellow. Does anyone know where I can get lenses with a true amber stop light section. I have ordered all red ones, but they do not have the ribs on the stop light portion like the originals. Help!!!

The all-red ones I got from Sacramento Vintage Ford last year have the ribs on the stop portion.

Thanks for the tip P.S. and thanks for the link Bob. My reproduction lenses are even more washed out than those from Vince's site. Any other suggestion for better reproduction red/amber ones??

Midgetracer,

Shouldn't she put red on them to make them more amber Bill? The new ones are very yellow, not that cool original amber.

I was an art major before becoming a mechanic. The original amber lights are more orange than the new ones. Probably 1 coat of red candy nail polish or paint would work.

Thanks, I'll try the red nail polish. Bill, I'm never sure when you are serious, so I am glad when you say so. This board would get boring without you and Buster T.

I believe these are originals. There seems to be some variation in colour...otherwise these 2 lenses are identical.
These were soaked in lacquer thinner, so are definately not coated.

It does take some hunting but originals are out there. These turned up in ratty, dirt encrusted old tail-lights at seperate swap meets...about ten yrs apart.

If you drive at night, use all red lenses with brighter bulbs--that is unless you like being rear ended.

Buddy, the Dog & I agree, that if we cain't make the world smile a little, we ain't worth "SPIT"!
Hey, Seriously, I've done some stained glass, if you have a stained glass supply store close, take them the lens and they can cut a shape to glue in on the backside, they have a kazillion colors. They have boxes of scrap small pieces that you can hold behind them to pick out a color.
If I ever get real bored, I will make 2 removeable stained glass panels to put inside my 1/4 windows. Bill W.

That's a good idea-I do some stained glass and hadn't thought of that.

For the OP, if you are near any kind of stage theater-all the spot lights are color changed with plastic "gels". There are a multitude of colors, they are highly heat resistant and easily cut and fitted. Use on the inside of your glass lenses to achieve the "correct" color. You could probably get scraps for free, but since all theater groups are hurting for funding, why not make a contribution?
