Default 1940 with 1939 Chassis

I've come across a few historical military pictures of a 1940 Ford commercial car and station wagon that appeared to have a 1939 chassis with the wide-five artillery-type wheels. Did Ford use up left over components? Was this done just on military vehicles or on civilian vehicles also? Also, did military vehicles share the same serial number series as civilian vehicles or did military vehicles have their own series?

You may be seeing Mormon-Harrington 4 wheel drive conversions.

These were not Marmon-Herrington conversions, they were standard 2X4.
Also, does anyone have any pictures or information concerning 1940/41 1/2 ton chassis and cowl that was used by the military with purpose-built bodies?

actually I have seen some military pictures with wide five rims that were two wheel drive and they had what was known as "sand tyres" on the rims. Also 1939-47 3/4 ton trucks had wide five bolt patterns both front and rear with the rear being floating axles. These front hubs bolted right on a auto/commercial spindle-used for dirt track cars later on. I would like to see the pictures you looked at

"Canada's Fighting Vehicles, Europe 1943-45" Published by the Canadian Military Historical Society covers the subject in great detail and gives production numbers of all types of vehicles. Station wagons, staff cars and misc. 4X2 numbered 81,942. Pictured are two types of '41 Ford wagons, one with standard running gear and the other with heavy duty axles using 9:00/13 sand tires/ wheels on six bolt pattern. I had a set of the military sand tires on 13" rims with the Ford 5 on 5.5 which I used on a Jeep. ..B.

Sorry, I don't have pictures of the vehicles in question. I saw them in a borrowed library book.
I will try to get a copy of Canada's Fighting Vehicles.
