Default Lookinf for a rear end for my 47 Ford

I am looking for some info as to what rear end will fit in my 47 Ford. I want to put a new rear in it so it will handle more power. Anyone have any info as to which rear ends will work in these? And simple bolt ins?

If you drive sensibly, the stock R E will handle a stock SBC or something similar.

A 9 inch out of a early Bronko up to and not including a 1978 is perfect and use a Chassis engineering kit to iinstall paralell springs.

Columbia, I'm putting a 351 Windsor and AOD trans in it. So the stock rear makes me nervous. Marv, I didnt see the parallel spring kit you were talking about. Okie, will that rear just bolt up?

Bronco rear in my '47, same width and bolt pattern. Chassis Engineering spring kit.
Nothing is a "easy swap in", the whole suspension and driveshaft will have to be changed too.

What year Bronco? And the Chassis Engineering kit is a bit expensive for my budget. I'll have to look for alternatives.

If you want to install a non-stock rear you will have to install parallel leaf springs and convert to an open drive shaft.

Just bolt up???? Well if you weld on mounts for the crossleaf spring and either four bar or ladder bars to locate front to rear. Easiest is parallel leafs from CE. Better ride also.

I have no idea what my brain was thinking yesterday when I was using the term "just bolt up". Apparently the smart part of my brain went out to lunch for a bit yesterday and left the village idiot in charge of my thoughts. I know damn well nothing will bolt up because of the banjo rear.

I'm going to look into the CE kit today.

Also, that kit says you can use a Nova, Camaro, Firebird, and a 57 9in. Is there a reason guys use the Granada or Bronco rear end instead of the ones they mention? Or is it really only to keep it all Ford?

All the kits are for the 41 to 48 Ford, but the kits are different for the various rearends. You have to buy the kit for the rearend that you are going to use. I used the Bronko rearend because the boltpattern matches the original wheels. To use a Bronko rearend you will need kit AS-2017CF or AS-2017CFG if you are going to keep the original frontend. Marv

The first thing you should do is measure the total width of your 47 rear end from the mounting surface of one brake drum to the mounting surface of the other side brake drum. That will give you the total width you can need. Then locate a modern rear that matches or comes close to that measurement. You may have to buy new wheels because of the bolt pattern change. also, you may have to get new wheels that have a different backspacing in order to fit properly. This may help.

This may also help.
http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-r...End-Widths.asp and

You may also want to consider a Ford 8.8 in. rear. They are plentiful, have disc brakes, have good gear ratios with posi, and are 59 1/2 in. wide WMS to WMS.

Here's more 8.8 in rear data.

I'm coming to see if anyone I know has a rear laying around that I could use. If not, I'll start searching for an 8.8. I really like the thought of rear discs.

And 19, thank you very very much for all the info. It will give me a whole lot of reading tomorrow!

I cut and narrowed a 8.8 from a f150 4x4 for my truck and it bolted up after we got perches mounted and installed worked well for me
