Default labaron bonny

I just received a notice that Labaron is closed and filed chapter 7. The bad news is that they charged me for a headliner and door panels they said were ready to ship. That was 3 weeks ago. The good news is I might be able get the money back from my card company. I hope someone will buy it and start production again. I don't have any faith in Mac's to supply a good complete product

LOL, guess we could start say maybe 100 threads on the topic! I would think that someone starting a new thread might be interested in several recent threads on the same topic, but maybe not.

It would be interesting to see how the market is trending regarding the sale of original pre 1950 automotive interiors such as those once made by LB. Is the demand increasing or decreasing?

My guess, judging by the depleting values of the cars themselves, is the demand for correct interiors is also waning.

There seems to be fewer young folks that want to buy an old crate to restore. Restoration costs and resources don't run a parallel course much anymore. Several good resources have dried up in just the last couple of years. Kids see the shows on Motortrend TV that customize, crap rod, and resto-mod so they seem to go more in that direction. DIY is the way most cars were restored over the years but it hurts when you can't buy kits to help with the stuff you don't do yourself. My old upholstery machine suits me but it ain't for everyone. Trim work is a lot of work. The kits made it a lot easier for most. Cartouche is the only game in town for now so there isn't much to choose from.

SMS is the worse company I have ever dealt with. I’d do without before I’d contact SMS for anything.

They are well down on my list as well. Additionally, I seem to recall that they are in fabric business, mostly end-of-roll surplus materials, and not in the upholstery business.

SMS attempted to make me a sewn to fit carpet for a 49 Wayfarer Roadster. They couldn’t make a door mat let alone a fitted carpet.

And you's comment on all of them.

David is right. SMS is mostly in the fabric business. I had a good experience with them. I wanted a period looking material for my Model A that was made from synthetic fiber and moth proof. They had just what I wanted. I purchased the material (not cheap) and took it to LB and they made a kit for my coupe. All went perfectly, the material, the fit, and the look. But, that was then and now is now.

SMS is mostly into fabrics for later model cars such as the 1949 & later. They have some broadcloth and a few other materials that will approximate the early car stuff but they don't seem to want to mess with something unless it makes them a lot of money. They do have stuff that is hard to find though. Now days you get it wherever you can. If no body else has it, a person has no choice.

I sew my own stuff so all I look for is the fabrics.
