Re: Need help in Fayetteville, AR with my 1st A
Did you turn off the fuel tap and run it out of gas [ a good idea] then turn your key to the left thinking it will now be off ? IT sounds like you forgot to push the Popout switch in when you turned it off.
The ignition is still on till you push in the switch, that would run down your battery and could cook the coil . It is easily done and probably the first lesson we all learn!! I have done it many times !! There are a few of those Russian Gaz Jeeps here in the UK. I have seen them at the Military Re enactment shows like Beltring Might be easier to buy one here than get onre out of Russia |

M2M, the Spanish pop apparently was a repo part made in the 70's. Assuming, your pop out is bad, you have two choices: buy the repop from the vendors or call Dick Crabtree (I think that is his name from the sticky at the top of the page) and get a rebuilt.
Also, you can activate the starter regardless of the switch being in or out-been there done that. Mike Mike

Good Morning...Bratton's and Snyder's or any other major supplier have good replacement ignition switches for less than $50.00. You can order on line, or take their phone number and call their order desks. Ask them to send you a catalog with your new switch. Ernie

Re: Need help in Fayetteville, AR with my 1st A
Thanks guys for the advice. I'm going to buy a new quality switch. I don't think this Spanish switch is working correctly because when I picked up the car and started it the switch was pressed in which made me think when it's popped out it's off. Anyway, even if it is currently working okay there just too many negative reviews about it's quality to ignore. General Franco should have stuck with making olive oil.
