I was shocked to find that someone else held my opinion. 3738 also likes the 38 Standard. I liked the later variants with the chrome trim. I saw a 38 Standard sedan delivery with skirts once and the image got stuck in my head. The lines just flowed like a 39 Lincoln Zephyr coupe.

All this proves is beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

Count me in with this group too. None of my friends agree with me, but I love the way the '38 standard louvers flow around the hood sides, back from the grille. It's a classic art deco look, in my opinion. Otherwise, hard to beat a '39 deluxe, or '40 standard.

I have to wonder how many of us own and drive not what we really would like to have, but what we find available and can afford. I admire those that save for a specific year, make and model and eventually buy it.

I bought my first car, a '37 fordor humpback in 1950 about 3 weeks before my 16th birthday. I always thought that this was an ugly car especially as my best friend had a '40 Merc convertible. My favorite car ever was my '34 roadster that I bought in 1954 and sold in 1960 after my stint in the army. I sure wish I still had that car.

Nostalgia has gotten the best of me. I bought the pictured '37 about 4 years ago. It now has just over 60k miles on it and the original paint (with some repairs) and interior. I have owned the '34 roadster for about 21 years and that is my favorite Ford year (and also the year I was born).

You are almost right. The 1933 model was nice, but the 1934 models were a BIG improvement over the 1933s. Everybody knows that !
Push those green tractors, outside, where they belong.

Hey Mikey , My second choice as you know is 34 . I have always had a soft spot for the kicked in the face look of 33's though and the dash insert is MILES ahead of 34 on the neat-o-meter . Yes on the big improvement thing as far as carb-intake goes anyway . Those green & yellow things earn their keep as my back yard on the home place here is 1 1/4 miles deep and 3/4 mile wide . No freeloading for Johnny and his brothers . First pic is a pair of 1960 730 Diesel electric starts and all 3 have power adjust rear wheels . Real common on Allis Chalmers but REALLY rare on 2 cyl JD's . The last 2 pics are a 1960 530 I just got running for the first time in over 30 years . As you can see no-welfare for him as he was immediately put to work with an 11' disc . Now the need for 65 old tractors is probably questionable but oh well !! I will try and make the show this year and I will probably drool on ol blue again though . Need to do the wally wing thing again also . David J

There's no question that the engine compartment changes in a '34 are a big improvement over a '33, but in my opinion, the price of that improvement was a step backwards in styling. Just look at any body type's profile of both years in a light color and you can't help but notice the disparity of all the different slanted lines of the '34 (leading edge of grille, hood louvers, hood side panel ends, and front edge of the door opening -- no two of them are on the same plane. From a styling point of view, that's a mess that is largely avoided on the '33 with the concave grille and curved hood louvers.

I like them both and have had more than my fair share of each, but the '33s are best styled of the two model years' offerings.

Notwithstanding, my first love was and remains the '32s, even though some of the body types such as the Victoria and deluxe coupe could use more wheelbase to be better balanced from a styling point of view.

I also agree with Mike's earlier comment about the '32 model year being a high water mark for styling throughout the North American industry. There's not an ugly one in the bunch.

I love 39 and 40 coupes, the flow of the roof-line into the rear quarters/trunk is perfect! I have owned both years and currently own a 39 standard coupe in addition to my deluxe (avatar). I'm not sure I care that much for the standard.

The car I really want to own is a 39 Convert. And I wouldn't turn down a 32 coupe (3 or 5 window, either one), a 33 roadster, 36, 46-48 convert....

33-34 are hands down the best looking early fords in MY eyes. Most people say my 47 pickup is pretty ugly...and I agree they are not the best looking Ford but I LOVE EM! I get the same thing with my 41...a lot of people do not like em but I'd take one over a 40 any day!

36's are at the top of my list too. 3 or 5 window. But I like just about every ford made in the 30s and 40s for one reason or another.

Here's a photoshop objective for my 36. Slight drop and black paint. Could go with or without the skirts. Beauty (36 coupe) and the beast (my 38 pickup).

THE 36 ford CABRIOLET has been #1 choice since I got one as a basket case in 1987/ By 1990 frustrated cause I had so far to go on the resto I got a 40 Pickup in 1990 spruced it up & drove & showed it for 19 years thinking I had the best looking truck - Now that the 36 is finished to me it is BEAUTIFUL!

I was so excited to find this '38 truck, and got it really really cheap too! Then I found this '36 truck! I still have part of my '38, the frame and complete running gear is under my '36. The fellow who bought the '38 body, bolted it on a Ford Ranger P\U chassis.

Any body style '33 & '34 early Ford wins the best design award hands down. Second would be '35-'36 3w coupe. There were never any ugly early fords, in my opinion.

Klicker,your assessment of the '37-'38 coupe tail is right. It's looks like a same year Mopar coupe;taking a dump. The '38 dripping nose is unusual at best.
