Installation of motor and gearbox- Ford 1 1/2 tonne

Hi all,

I am on holidays in Vietnam at the moment but was thinking of what i may do on the truck when i get home.

My question is, am i able to install the engine and gearbox pedal box etc prior to installing the cab and guards or will i run into trouble somewhere along the way?

hi; Typically the cab was lowered onto a fully assembled chassis. This required a tall ceiling, as the steering wheel [column] went up thru the cab. newc

That’s how I did it on my 40 Tonner. All the running gear was installed on the chassis including engine, transmission, differential, master cylinder and brake lines before installing the cab. I left the pads off the clutch and brake pedals and installed the steering column without the steering wheel after the cab was mounted on the chassis. To do that I jacked up the front of the truck and installed it from below. The headers on the engine were installed after the steering column was mounted to the cab and chassis. (close fit there) If you approach the assembly the same way the factory did you should be OK.

I should be ok for height add it,s about 5 metres to the apex of the shed, i will also have a hoist which i should be able to use to lower the cab on. Was it a pain to get the steering column/box in after the cab? Or was it not to bad, sounds better to do it that way as it will not require such a high lift and precision bring it down over the shaft without scratching anything.

To install the column and box with the cab on required a helper. Other than that not a big deal.
