Have a family member running this in 2022 with an old bmw. Did gfx for them a few years back for tv. A very neat race. My understanding is the last winner was within 13secs.

I plan to be there in detroit lakes when all the neat cars roll in.

Last winner I believe were piloted and navigated by two sisters, late teen /early twenties. I think there mom and aunt were in another car.

I hope that there are different categories as an early car like a model A versus anything pre 1974 seems just a teensy tiny bit ridiculous...

its a timed event. Its about managing time not how fast you get from one stop to the next like a drag race. it's not a race, but really about time management and consistency. Cars from the 1890s to the 1970s can compete effectively. https://www.greatrace.com/

If you are interested in a fasted traveled event crossed America. But I'd guess that model A or 74 camaro would be smoked 10 min in... https://www.cannonballruncarrally.com/

.

Depending on what the speeds may be it is easier to maintain 40mph on a hill in a newer car than a stock Model A. I know the errors can be compensated for but it is still extra work.

I went to the lunch stop in Bennington VT 2018 pic below.
All of the cars had a calibrated odometer/speedometer and accurate clocks mounted on the dash.
