Default Generator two wires

I'm starting to examine details on a '30 coupe I bought recently. I just noticed that the generator has two wires coming out of the hole where the one connection for the cutout normally is. One is connected to the cutout, the other is grounded to the case. My guess is that the extra wire is for a field connection to be used with a voltage regulator. I haven't had the time to pull the generator and do a dissection. It just has a regular cutout at this point. Any thoughts?
