1940 Convertible footman loops
Random question, I'm redoing the top on my '40 and I have a footmans loop on either side above the side window opening, and another pair on the rear wood bow. From pictures I found it appears straps go from the rear bow down, to what I don't know, to help support the weight of the rear window. Does anyone know where the bottom terminates? And what are the loops above the side windows for? Thanks!

Re: 1940 Convertible footman loops
Kube has just restored a 40 convertible and will have the definitive answer. The 40 convertible I sold recently had loops in the same places as what you describe but the top fabric was off.

When the top is in the upward position, the loops on the rear wood bow have the rear straps threaded through them. This aids in keeping the rear window "flap" from well, "flapping" too much. The picture I've attached should help you envision this. The loops above the doors (one each side) are utilized when the top is folded down. A leather strap is threaded through each and subsequently through a loop behind each rear seat side panel. This is what keeps the folded assembly secure within the top well. Picture attached of the rear of one side panel. Make sense?

Re: 1940 Convertible footman loops
Perfect, thank you! I'm missing the loops in the side panels but I can feel the holes there. As for the straps on the rear, what does the lower mount look like? Or is it stitched right to the tack strip? My car had a top on it but it was not original, so those rear straps were missing entirely.

Note that the interior side of those rear panels have snaps. These serve two purposes. One, they fasten the previously mentioned loop to the outboard side of each panel and accept the (only one each side) female snap of the top boot when covering the lowered top assembly.

It's been a nearly exhaustive process. No complaints mind you. It's been a rewarding process as well
