I don't have experience with Rock Auto carburetors, but the price doesn't look too bad. Is there a reason you don't rebuild you're carb yourself ? They don't get too much easier than this one. Maybe yours has been damaged ?

I personally have always liked the 1904 carb. ran 2 of them with a Fenton intake on a 215 c.i. six in a 52 Ford back when I was a teenager. I say rebuild it if possible.

About 10 years ago, I bought two factory rebuilt 1904's in Holley boxes from O'Reilly Auto parts store. They were about $150.00 at the time. I asked for a carb for a '54 Ford truck with 6 cylinder. No problems with them since I put them on my '51 six.

The Ford flathead 6 (226) came out in 1941 and was last used in cars in the 1951 model year.

The engine we're talking about here (215) came out in the 1952 model year in cars and was increased to 223 cubic inches in 1954.

The link below has pictures of the 226.

Sorry for the late reply guys. I appreciate your input.
My 1904 has been rebuilt. When I got the car it was leaking pretty bad over the intake and exhaust manifolds. Consistent drop of gas overthere due to a cracked visiflow glass bowl. Then I got lucky and 1952Henry offered a metal bowl for shipment only, which I threw in along with a complete rebuild kit.
It got better but I still have a slight gas "humidity" on the bottom of the bowl when the car is parked more than a day or so.

The thing is I believe I've got a bad throttle (?) pump, along with obstructed passages. There is hesitation upon sudden throttle.

Also there is a spot at the choke plate that looks like burnt plastic, cant describe it better.

I'll post a closeup picture later.

Regards.

If you like to play with sixes, the 226 flathead can easily be built to take on most flathead V8's, and stock vs. stock they're a close match. Then there's the truck version at something like 262 cubes, a sleeper in its day. For the 215/223 OHV engine, there was a 263 cube truck version. Other companies did the same back then. Chevy had a 261 version of the 235 and Dodge had a 265 version of its flathead six for trucks (actually used in Chryslers, too).

I found the ad I saw for the carb I was talking about. may not be a direct fit. It is from Daytona Carburetor. 1191 Turnbull Bay Rd. New Smyrna Beach, Fl. 32168 Ph. # 386-427-7108 or www.daytonaparts.com maybe this is an option for you.----Jim
