Default Radiator not clean

I'm finding a brown sludge on the walls of the inside of the radiator. I'm guessing it is water pump grease? I'm hoping a good radiator cleaner will loosen this stuff.

Run Cascade and water in it for a few days, then flush it out and do it again. That should remove the grease, then if you have rust, run pure white vinegar for 30 days and flush it with clean water several times.

I just used Tom's method on my coupe, and it worked great. I added a couple cups of kerosene and a cup of non-foaming detergent to the vinegar with good results, ran it for 500 miles, then drained and backflushed the system and ran water through till it came out clear. 300 miles later the water is still running clear and cool.

I have used TSP to remove grease too. But cascade is easier to find.

Tom; 30 days seems like a long time for the vinegar. What happens if you leave it in too long?

I first tried 3 or 4 days, as I too was worried about leaving it in too long. Only a little rust was removed from a few days, but the 30 days did a much better job, and didn't hurt my original radiator. Pure white vinegar is only 5% acidic.

Any paint or hardware store will have TSP. It's also a great multi-purpose cleaner. When trying to polish a badly oxidized car, first wash it thoroughly with TSP to remove the chalky oxidation. Saves a lot of SLAVE labor. Bill W.
