some of our most recent woodgraining
Here's a few pics of some our woodgraining that we have recently done for some of our friends on the Ford Barn. This is Ted and Kathy Koudys from Canada, They came to visit us here at Honest Charley/Coker Tire and to pick up their two 32 dash boards and moldings.

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
Super finish. Just out of curiosity what kind of clear are you using? Also are you using the solvent-based grain product or water base? I tried the water base and had no success with it. I'm reluctant to try the solvent base as I'm not sure if I can get the correct plate for 1933 Ford and 1934 Ford. I have many original samples of 1933 and 1934. I have yet to see anyone who has those plates. I sure like your work and can send you samples of original 1933 1934 Ford. Would love to see the correct woodgrain on these cars. Call me at 510-889-1933 Nick

Whizzernick, We use PPG products for everything in our restoration shop. We use the PPG DCU2021 clear coat and it's baked on in our full down draft spray booth.
I started out using the water base system years ago, but switched to the solvent based ink as it yields much better results. |

We had a great visit and tour of the facilities, cars and motorcycles. Very pleased with the finished dashes and mouldings.

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
The folks at honest charley garage did an outstanding job on my 1940 ford coupe mouldings. I could not believe how nice looking they are. Very well packed in a wood box for shipping. Quick job very well please. They are very good at what they do. Thanks Felix, Brooks

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
Felix that looks really good. It makes me want to take the window garnish off my '31 Victoria for you to re-do the woodgraining. Whats that gonna cost me?

Good Afternoon Felix:
I'm another Canadian. Do you have the correct pattern to do a '41 Lincoln Continental dash woodgrain? Mike L. |

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
Hello, my name is Johnathan S. I work here at Honest Charley Garage with felix37/ Jonathan M. I am new to the Ford Barn so this will be my first post. I work with felix37 on the wood graining projects we receive at the shop and have been working here for about 2 years now. I currently do paint, body work and wood graining. I am very proud of our work and wanted to post new pictures of our current projects. We have built a traveling display cart that shows our wood graining. This cart will soon go to shows and be apart of our displays. The first dash is 1934 Packard, the next dash is a 1938 Ford. On the left side of the dash I grained it for the 1938 ford standard and on the right side it has a 1938 Ford deluxe pattern. Then we took a 1928 Ford Model A dash rail and did a custom grain for a 1931 Ford Model A on half. The other half of the Model A dash I left alone to show a before and after. Then the bottom molding is from a Model A with a custom grain and color. If you have any questions feel free to message Jonathan M/ Felix37

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
Here is an example of some original 1933-34 woodgraining. It is a burled woodgrain. It seems to be about 50% black ink.
I'm sure that Ford had many people doing woodgrainiong and that no two are exactly alike. MIKE (mikeburch) CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE - Twice |

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
That's a great reference photo! Its always hard for us to find the original graining that hasn't been painted over though out the years. Yes the 1934 was a burl grain pattern with a reddish base color. From what I've seen in the jobs and research I have done, there is never two dashes that look the exact same. The graining process is like an art. We are proud to say we use tools similar to the way it was done in the day but also have the state of the art equipment to give a show car finish. Thanks again for the photo!

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
Add me to the list of satisfied customers. Top quality, no compromises anywhere. Johnathan Sullivan provided updates every step of the way. Results are absolutely beautiful - just received the parts, I can't wait to get this all assembled.
1936 Cabriolet, Craig Luton and I are restoring the actual car my father purchased in high school (1949) and was sold in 1952 - I'm giving the car back to my dad when restoration is complete next year - he is 84. Ken Fowles |

Felix37:
Could you give me a quote for a '31 fordor, dash and all window frames & garnish, that would be 10 pieces. I'm going to try myself, but if I fail it's nice to have a fall back plan.

Re: some of our most recent woodgraining
Give them a call for a personal quote. They did extra straightening work on my 3window door mouldings and my dash. Price was very reasonable and turn around time was very quick. Quality of work was very good. They kept me updated with pictures as work progressed.
