Default Gas Tank Cleaning/Sealing Shop

If any of you need your gas tank(s) cleaned, & sealed, look no farther than Moyer's Gas Tank Renu located in Greensburg,Pa!

The whole process for my tank took one month.

I've had fuel problems ever since I bought the car in late 2013 especially RUST.

I spent $$$ on products to soak the tank -ALL with little results. Save your $$. Pull the tank and send it to Moyers. They will let you know if your tank is restorable or not. They have done many 'A' tanks.

They took 40 photos of the process of my tank with desciptions of each.

You'll be glad you did.

I'll also pass, as I've found enough good tanks at swap meets for less money.

Sure glad my tank is clean inside.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for posting your one on one (1) "good" gas tank experience with this one (1) "particular" shop along with a "specific" contact and name of the manager.

Even though some presented some not so good past gas tank experiences, it appears that this shop is like many other chain operations in many different States where so much depends on managers and on "who" is doing "what" at all of these "different" locations in these "different" States.

Many of the thorough de-rusting cautions & thoroughly sealing cautions in the past involve not being able to see "everything" hidden behind metal baffles in these Model A tanks ...... but, if you are happy, not a bad idea to offer a toast and drink to that .... life is so short.

Thanks for the kind words H.L.
Tank Renu is a franchise and you will probably never find 2 alike.
I had several conversations with Jim prior to my sending him my tank. You could tell, just from listening to him that he was sincere and confident. He did not disappoint. The job was EXCELLENT!!!

I read the 'link' from MikeK. Either the workers were not trained properly, inexperienced, low/no work ethic, or who knows what else.

I tried another vendor first but that did not work out. Maybe it was for the best.

I'll try to post some of the pics.

I think it is great to have other companies offering competing services. It keeps everyone on their toes! Just to add a little FWIW, about 10 years ago I spoke at length with the owner of Gas Tank ReNu (an attorney from Michigan) about becoming a franchised dealer, mainly to get the Lifetime Warranty. Thru the discussions, i learned they were not keen on the way we cut open the tanks. They also cannot offer the lifetime warranty on a restored tanks unless they can use their 1999 undercoating on the exterior. That coating would look like 'heck' on the outside of the tank on a restored car!

Also, their Lifetime Warranty is actually a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" which means it is non-transferable, and their warranty is only good for one 'Re-Nu Redo' if it goes bad, or your payment refunded, ...their choice. That sure don't help much towards repainting one, does it? As Bob said, maybe it was the best that he used Re-Nu, as these may have not been important to him.

Hi Bob,

Meeting Jim and "reading" his expressions prior to handing him your tank says a lot about your wisdom and ability to judge honesty & integrity.

Many businesses with same names can differ. For example, I remember two (2) name brand supermarkets in our local metropolitan area.

One was neat, had fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and fresh meat with intelligent cashiers who could process customers in a jiffy.

Next tried the other which had wilted vegetables and fruit, all full of flies, with a meat odor that could attract buzzards from 5 miles away, and every time the customer lines got a little long, over half of the cashiers would go on break ..... same name, different managers & workers.

Satisfied customers expressing sincere contentment with a unique mechanic's shop can help others.

The Moyer co. has 2 WORKING phone numbers that allow you to leave a voice mail message. Jim did return my calls. He called after their thorough inspection and gave me complete details of the tank's condition, what they would do to restore it, cost, and how long it would take(1 month).

I NEVER gave a thought to getting a warranty. Getting my tank cleaned, and sealed, was my only concern and Moyer Tank Renu did that 100%!!!!!

Moyer did everything right. My first choice did not.

After looking at those photos, I have to wonder how well the sealer survives the welding to close the tank. I think the welding would destroy the job along the weld. Might even leave burnt sealer in the bottom of the tank to later find its way into the fuel system.

Hi Bob,

Not long ago, I just tried to compliment Mr. Ryan's Forum's brave new posters and members with an "Under 1,000" title for new post for "new" guys brave enough to enter messages into this Forum, whether they were young or old.

It later turned into the all too familiar similar "know it all" type battle with the same "Over 1,000" ............. "Know It all Posters" ....... until Mr. Ryan deleted my entire complimentary post because it had turned into the normal Model A Forum "Drama".

I have always tried to maintain an extremely low profile on my life's past military and civilian experiences.

With your only 141 post on this Forum, I have profound respect for your exemplary courage and bravery to express your innermost concerns about your past Model A gas tank experiences.

Thank God for all of you new younger Forum guys posting your brave thoughts and experiences .... just keep on posting ..... 50 years from now nobody will even care to know who were these Model A "over 1,000 know it all's" from the year ending in 2067 ....... and remember, I have over 1,000 messages.

Well, it looks like Ryan's anti-delete program is working. Two times so far on this post. Looks like they did a nice job cleaning your tank Bob. Although I have never been a lover of tank sealer and never will be. I am with Tom and I found a real nice decent tank at a swap meet. Good luck with yours. Looks like a good start.

Synchro909;

Thanks for that info. I will check with Jim to see if that will be a problem.
I will still use the pencil filter in the shut-off valve.

Synchro909

I talked w/Jim today about the welds.
He stated the welding is done prior to sealing the inside of the tank and should have no effect on the sealant.
