Vicky with OD
We are seriously considering adding a Mitchell OD to the Vicky.
Question to the Vicky owners out there who have the Mitchell OD: Are there any issues with moving the passenger seat for access to the back seat? Photos that I have looked at on line show this to be very close and possibly interfere with rolling the seat all the way forward. Any input greatly appreciated. Gil NoCal |

It may just be me, ....but I don't see that it matters whether you have a Mitchell O/D installed or not, --you still need to move the front passenger seat to gain access to the rear seat area. FWIW, most seats are incorrectly upholstered which limits the way that seat is to operate. The bigger issue that I find with an overdrive on the Victoria is the O/D transmission must be located further rearward which increases weight on the rear axle. This additional weight creates a harsher ride due to unsprung weight. Other than that, proceed on. |

Re: Vicky with OD
Our Victoria has a Mitchell Overdrive.
It Overdrive Gearbox is located closer to the Read End to allow clearance for the dropped Floor Pan ahead of the Rear Seat. This is a configuration offered by Mitchell. I do not notice any difference in the ride characteristics, with the gearbox located further to the rear. I think your question is in regards to the Shift Handle for the Overdrive. The short answer is no, there is no clearance problem with the shift handle and the front passenger seat. Our Victoria has the adjustable seats, with three alignment holes in the seat mounting bracket. The seat is mounted to the rear most holes (positioning the seat further back). But with the seat in the front holes, there would still be adequate clearance. Additionally, the shift handle is mounted to the rear of the transmission, ahead of the cross member. Both the shift handle and the arm going to the overdrive are on a splined shaft, which would allow the shift handle to be rotated more forward, based on your preference. In short, talk with Mitchell, get the correct Overdrive for the Vicky (dropped Floor Pan), then adjust the shift handle during installation to the position comfortable to shift both in and out of overdrive. There is no clearance problem between the shift handle and the right front seat. PM me if you have any questions. |

Re: Vicky with OD
The Mitchell gear shift is close on the passenger side, not on the drive side. My seats don't slide, only fold. No problem with the folding part. It fits very close to the floor pan, I put some rubber cushions on the front corners.Overall, pretty easy to install. We replaced the clutch and balanced the flywheel/clutch plate at a local shop. Disassembly/assembly was easy enough. Rented the pinion puller from Mitchell. I LOVE IT!!! We have hills in NE Oregon and it works great!

Re: Vicky with OD
We installed a Mitchell in a 31 Roadster with a 32 Transmission using a Mitchell provided Overdrive Activating Cable which attaches/clamps to the Model A Gear Shift Lever. Cable is flexible and moves with the lever when shifting gears. Works fine. Been installed about 2 years.

Re: Vicky with OD
yes if you have all the right tools and if everything goes right. the last two of our club members that put overdrives in had bad pinion bearings.

Re: Vicky with OD
Yes, two guys and a couple of days should be fine. Pulling the Pinion Gear may be the hardest part, take your time, instructions are clear. As mentioned above, this also may be a good time to change the clutch while it is apart, just preventative, not necessary. Good Luck.

Re: Vicky with OD
Buy the pinion puller from Mitchell. It's only about $85, worth every penny!
(or borrow one!)
