RHD Steering
Hi, a question for the right hand drive members, I bought a 30 Roadster, and after rebuilding the front end, the steering box has a lot of play in it, and is hard to turn with the drag link off. Does any of the LHD parts fit the RHD box, such as the sector shaft, or housing? I would like to rebuild the box, with a needle bearing sector housing, and need to know how hard it will be to get parts. Thanks for any help.

Re: RHD Steering
It is not a problem to convert to needle bearings and RHD sectors are available from Snyders. I rebuilt mine using the repro bits and it works a treat.

Re: RHD Steering
Only the cups & cones fit, Mac,s have RHD worm & sectors. The 1st ones were no good , Jon found another supplier , flew some out for testing , these proved fine, Not sure who snyders get theres from , But there was two makers, The wrong ones can not be ajusted in the straight ahead position to zero clearance, coupled with a new short pitman arm , Good steering,

Re: RHD Steering
Futher to the mention of pitman arms I was thinking of fitting a shortened one to my 28 RHD Roadster. I see these are available in the USA but wondered if there was a difference between these for LHD and RHD vehicles?

Re: RHD Steering
Thanks for the help, I'll have to find a shop to bore the sector housing for the roller bearings. Nice tip about the pitman arm, I have a short one and drag arm to try it. Now if I could find a way to fit my feet in with the pedals!

Re: RHD Steering
Well that can be fixed too, Cut the round pedals ,rotate to the left, weld on , then there is romme for acc pedal in the right place , hard to do a linkage but one from a firewall mounted v8 style can be used, course driving on the right with a right hook must be right?? I preffer driving my left hook on the left here, easier than driving a right hook on the left once you adapt, bit scary for passenger till she got used to it.

Re: RHD Steering
Thanks for that cunning tip Quickchange. I may well use it but might also cut down a RHD item if unable to buy one. Cheers, Gavin.

Re: RHD Steering
Thanks Quickchange, I used the LHD pitman arm and draglink, and it works great. I'm going to try the gas petal to the right of the brake as soon as Les finds me one. Thanks again.
