Here in the UK I have the same problem, engine like a sawing machine and all that, so the other day I tried a better grade of fuel and the chattering has gone a bit quieter I just hope my tiny mine isn't playing tricks so now I'm going to try good grade fuel and an additive, have looked at all the other ideas you guys have come up with keep them coming.

As I recall it is copper side out. Do you recommend the two piece gasket or the one? Please correct me where I'm wrong. Jack

I had a ticking noise that ticked 2 times each revolution with the crank. Turned out to be play in a two piece cam gear. Look in the side cover for the cam gear that is aluminum in the center. The gear should be all aluminum or all fiber.

If it is a tic tic, it sure sounds like a manifold leak. If the gasket has a reflective side, face it out toward the manifold to reflect the heat away from the engine. Let us know.

I'm using Redex Lead replacement 250ml bottle enough for 4 full tanks of gas. I have put the first lot in but as we speak I have not used the car yet.

Well after checking all the options you guys said to look into regarding chatter I decided to go back to the manifold, this time I used a good magnifying glass and went all over it and yes I found a very slight soot trace, anyway removed the offending part and I was surprised to see that the gasket was totally shot even though you could hardly see form the outside, anyway new gasket fitted chatter gone, even though this tread was stared by Rob63mess it helped me sort the heap, thanks to everyone for the imput
