This is an Australian NOS 1941-1947 Ford Tonner Hubcap. Notice that it has Black Paint? Last edited by mercman from oz; 08-09-2021 at 01:25 AM. Reason: Description change |

USA 1941-1947 Ford Tonner. Hubcap. Notice that it has Blue Paint. Can anyone advise which is the correct colour for the USA Tonners? Last edited by mercman from oz; 08-09-2021 at 01:26 AM. Reason: Description change |

According to the Greenbook the part# for the Tonner hubcaps from 38-47 was 11Y1130-A. The hubcaps on my 40 Tonner were black (photo attached). I also have some spare Tonner hubcaps in my stash one of which has the 11Y1130-A part# written on it. It is trimmed in black like the caps on the 40 Tonner. This leads me to conclude that the USA Tonner hubcaps were trimmed in black and not blue. |

Sihilling Metal Polishing in Santa Ana, CA took out the dings, buffed out the scratches and restored the caps on my 40 Tonner to the condition you see in the attached photo. Cost was $75/each back in 2008. I applied the black paint. Charles and his crew worked some magic on restoring the caps to like new. |

Re: 47 Ford Tonner hubcaps
When the six became available the script changed from V8 to FORD. I only dabble in 42-47 and all mine are blue. That's a pic of one of mine, the yellow wheel with snow tire. Yes I have some V8 style (always black) and some black FORD (perhaps 40-41?)

Re: 47 Ford Tonner hubcaps
I have a confession to make regarding the years of these two different style Tonner Hubcaps, the early ones with the V8 logo and the replacement with the Ford Script. The ones with the V8 go from 1938-1940 and the ones with the Ford Script go from 1941-1947
This came about when "deuce5wndw" (Post #10) suggested the years of the Ford Tonner Hubcap with the Ford Script should be 1941- 1947. On that basis, I contacted a good friend who is an expert with early Ford Trucks. This was his reply. "The "V-8" hub caps were used on the 1938-40 models; those stamped "Ford" came arrived for 1941 when the four- and six-cylinder engine options were made available on 1/2-ton (Commercial Car), 3/4-ton and 1-ton models. The "flat-faced" style were used only in conjunction with 17-inch wheels." Just to save any confusion, I have changed the Years against the pictures that appear in this Post. I am sorry for the confusion that I may of caused. Regards Mercman <>< |

Re: 47 Ford Tonner hubcaps
This change in the Hubcaps logos makes sense when you look at the slight differences in the Hoods of the 1940 and 1941 Ford Commercials. Notice that the 1940 Ford Commercial has a V8 pressed into each side, while it was removed on the 1941 Ford Commercial models. When the V8 pressing was removed on the 1941 Ford Commercial, the V8 on the Hubcap was also removed and replaced with a Ford Script. |

Tailgate logo changed between '40 and '41 as well.

Re: 47 Ford Tonner hubcaps
As 51504bat pointed out about these Tail Gates, here are pictures of the 1940 and 1041 Ford Tail Gates compared. Notice that the V8 has been omitted on the updated 1941 Ford Tail Gate. |

I have a 1938 Ford Tonner that I just bought. Missing 1 hubcap. Do you know where I could locate one? Thanks Dennis

A perfect example of this are the 1939 ford standard passenger car hood ornaments. The background of the V8 was painted body color when the car was assembled. Later service parts were painted blue. Nearly each and every '39 standard restoration has a blue background which is incorrect. Yes, the service part fit.

Re: 47 Ford Tonner hubcaps
There is a somewhat strict protocol around here where we use the classified section for buying and selling. This forum section is for discussion of the early fords only. I'll make you a deal. If you start with a story about how you came upon this 38 tonner, and please include pics and some history, I might be able to dig one up. Not gonna be mint. I think you need 10 posts before you can access the PM (personal message) system. When you get there, send me a PM and I will look and see what I have. I can picture a few in various stashes of parts. Is it a 8' express pickup or a stakebed?
