What kind of wood was used for the support beams between
the steel stake body and the frame of a 1 1/2 ton truck(35/37) ???

For what it is worth, the wood for that purpose in the '32-'34 counterparts was generally oak, but I doubt if that was a hard and fast requirement and that ash, maple, and birch were also used depending on the inventory of unfinished wood on hand at Iron Mountain.

when I did my 41 1 1/2ton truck the only answer I could find to that question was "straight grain hardwood" I have seen oak, ash, maple. hardwood so it will not compress very easily

slightly planed, mostly semi-rough cut. stained them with thinned out black paint and then put on multiple coats of ext sealer. first two pictures are of my 41 3/4 ton, wooden stakes as original, last three are of the 1 1/2 ton truck

We were able to save/reuse the original beams on this truck, they were all finger jointed, probably what saved them. I’ll search for my pictures, I still have the original latches/hardware on the truck

I do not have the latch which went into the bed frame as original instead opted to do a lift up and swing rear and both sides from. the picture I took of a 37 stake bed might help you

I'm also working on replacing the wood supports for a 36 1.5 ton truck. What size should the wood supports be? Thanks
