Re: Model A's named after Females
My grandmother named our coupe Gallopin' Gertie and the sedan Ole' Henry, both having to do with her parents. After about 3 years of me driving the sedan, the steering wheel has come off while driving down the road, the transmission blew apart on a tour (and the olds guy in the club give me crap about it saying I don't know how to drive a model a, even though I can double clutch 10x better than them), the engine crapped out on a tour, numerous blown head gaskets, the fan went through the radiator, and the right rear wheel came off while going down the highway on the way to my prom with my girlfriend and her friend in it. All of this happened while I was driving, and of course when anybody else drove it, the car ran fine. So i've dubbed the sedan, "El Diablo."

I remember Tom Terrific, It was on in the mornings when I was in grammar school. as in Terrytoons presents on the Captain Kangaroo show. I thought that the bad guy on the show, Crabby Appleton was the funniest of all.

Re: Model A's named after Females
Growing up in the 60's my friend had a 1930 Coupe named Henrietta, My 1929 Tudor Sedan is Puddles named by my girlfriend at the time as I drove it through every puddle
I could find. My parents have a 1915 Touring named Minkie. My Mother named the car after chipping in the money she was saving to buy a mink coat with to help buy the car. We have a 1929 Town Sedan named after the previous owner, Ted. My Model T Speedster is named: Nas T (Nasty) |

Re: Model A's named after Females
In the 70's, we had a '25 touring that was missing a headlight. We politically and socially incorrectly named her "Betty Ford" after a nationally-known person who had also recently lost a headlight.
The previous owner of our '30 tudor started with the car when he was in high school and drove it for 30 years. His wife had no use for the car and in all those years only rode in it once or twice. In her honor, we named the car "Nancy." |

Re: Model A's named after Females
I gotta say, I've called my cars a lot of names but those normally result because of blood or flesh lost on some ragged bolt or chunk of steel. And most of them don't get repeated when there's a lady in the area.

Re: Model A's named after Females
If my project had ears, it would think it's name is "what the expletive".
But when this car is complete, its name will be Fred. Fred was my grandfather who bought this car in 1970, but he passed away in 1972 before he could get too far on the project. He was going to restore the car and give it to me when I was 16. He used to take me for rides in his pickup, down the dirt road at the end of our street, almost every day. It's one of the very fond memories that I have of him. One day, Fred and I will ride again. Tommy- |

Re: Model A's named after Females
I agree with some of the others, it seems like the trucks or at least the AA's should be named after males. Just seems that way. I dunno........

Re: Model A's named after Females
Mine is named after my mother-in-law, Ethel. They are both 82, a little cranky, let off some steam once in a while, but both look pretty good for their age. Ed

Re: Model A's named after Females
We have both male and female names on the A's. My wife made the gender call and I think she was right. They range from Josephine to Albert to Mortimer......

Re: Model A's named after Females
I'm processing a 31 PU for some serious fun. It's focus will be all A, but it's going to serve me in more than 1 way. Once in a while, her version of CFM shoes might be some fat WW on 16 or 15" wheels and 4 bar flippers. All the while bein a Model A, serving us well, like her name.........the Barmaid.

Re: Model A's named after Females
My Model A named Lady Rose. Female names fit very well. My girlfriend always says that Lady Rose was my mistress. But she is not jealous of Lady Rose. Better a car as beloved as any other woman.
