Re: Model A's named after Females
A small fire started in our tudor at the ammeter which resulted in a car full of smoke and probably some soiled britches. After getting the car off the road and bailing out as quickly as they could, I'm told my mother-in-law exclaimed in her frustration, "That's just Beautimus!" So that name has stuck since '64.

Re: Model A's named after Females
Male names? I've seen plenty of A's referred to as "Rusty".

Re: Model A's named after Females
Using a female name for your favorite car may be an American thing. In England, I'm pretty sure they name cars with male names. Stateside, had a 34 Chevy named Ophelia. My 28 Phaeton is named Phoebe. Other names may be used upon breakdown

Re: Model A's named after Females
All my machines get names, either female or the occasional gender-neutral name. Call me a chauvinist, I don't care. It was good enough for centuries of sailing ships.
My Model A was almost "Clara" after Henry's wife, but the more I thought about it, I realized she was really Edsel's baby. So, she became Josephine, after Edsel's daughter.

Re: Model A's named after Females
Our '29 Tudor has the name of "Nellie". The reason for that name is when we bought the car it had terrible brakes, so getting it home was exciting, so the first thing I said when trying to stop was whoa Nellie, and the name stuck!

Re: Model A's named after Females
I named my coupe "Edsel" in 1953 and now my latest coupe is "Edsel III". I wish FOMOCO had done a better job with their Edsel.
