Fantastic craftsmanship
Don't know if this video has been posted before.
Although not flathead related, I felt the craftsmanship of this build had to be shared > https://www.youtube.com/embed/E-1_JwlHO-8

Re: Fantastic craftsmanship
WOW....That is AWESOME. I had built the 3/4 scale Fokker DR1 WW1 Triplane utilizing the Volkswagen engine.

American ingenuity at it’s best. Having spent my adult years in aviation, it was so enjoyable to watch.

Re: Fantastic craftsmanship
At first I thought the plane was going to be a giant RC model. I was amazed when he climbed into it and manually flew it....

Re: Fantastic craftsmanship
.
Unfortunately, Jack passed-away last June 21st at age 79. Here, his "Obsession" is shown on his private grass strip sitting next to a Cessna 140 before the B-17's maiden flight. The airplane was advertised for sale in 2018 after it's appearance at Oshkosh. I have no idea of it's current disposition. DD Last edited by V8COOPMAN; 03-12-2021 at 01:57 AM. |

T H A N K S !!!! pete & coopman.....it does belong here. Would love to see it at The Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton Ohio. The "greatest generation" built Ford flatheads & aircraft that helped win WW2.

Re: Fantastic craftsmanship
I thought I heard them say in the video that they were Hirth 2 cycle engines. A "Google" search shows they are now into engines for ultra-lights and other small aircraft. Back in the sixties, they were used in a lot of snowmobiles.
I believe they are made in Germany. The VW engine was used by another guy with a replica Fokker DR1 (which also has to be a remarkable achievement). Last edited by tubman; 03-13-2021 at 12:02 PM. |

Re: Fantastic craftsmanship
Thanks for the posting. Gotta love the B-17s and 24s. Even at 1/3 scale; much respect for his creation. A late uncle, armorer/waist gunner, was on a B-24. The Citrus Sadie's career was short-lived. The crew were unwilling guests of the Germans for the duration. May the Lord bless this man and Godspeed S. SGT Bryce K. Johnson.
