Is it a Chevy valve? The valve guide looks like it is turned down for performance.

1 3/4" valve in a 59A engine? I measured an 8BA valve at ~ 4.81". Yours appears to have a domed top.

Is this an old performace engine?
Years ago Desoto valves were used and were 1.75"
If your valve is 1.72", then it could be a GM 305 engine
exhaust valve (readily available).
Measure carefully with a mic of good calipers

There are or were about 30 different valves listed in the progressive size chart that worked.
Some are still listed.
I use SBI01588 valves for intakes. These are John Deere valves. If you go this route, get them from a parts house, NOT John Deere. About half price.
These have 1.785 dia. heads and chromed 5/16 stems.
They are much longer than needed so you have to cut the stem and regroove it. You will have to cut the head dia. to fit your seats.

Not domed top.

Yes it is an older performance engine, built in the 50’s to race oval track.

I will take better measurements tonight after work. I will confirm seat angel.

The engine is in a 32 roadster my father-in-law built in the 80’s. after his passing I became the caretaker of the car and the wife and I have enjoyed taking the car to cruse nights and shows. Over the last five years I have done a lot of maintenance to the car which has been quite the learning experience as my father-in-law was an excellent mechanic but not much on taking notes and keeping records.

This is what I know about the engine. it is a 59A with Offy aluminum intake and Fenton aluminum heads, Weber aluminum flywheel, Isky cam. the only thing I know about the cam is it has 400 lift on the intake. Bored 60 over, not stroked, ported and relieved and converted to side distributor

If it's a 400 jr, check for cam and lifter ware. Also check for valve spring preaaure. For street use 60 lbs works quite well. Sounds like a fun ride.

If it is 30 deg seat it may be an Oldsmobile ex valve.
1.684" 4.675" .342"

It appears to be an intake (marked IN) and the "E" I believe is for Eaton?

I have no listing size-wise for the application, Olds and Pontiac were notorious for the 30* seats! Someone may have resized the head from something larger?

P.S. Not positive about the brand but if it's magnetic the full length of the stem it is also not likely an exhaust valve.

That engine sounds like a stock car motor. In Mass the sanctioning bodies allowed .060 over, almn flywheels, heads, and dual manifolds. Not sure about what they allowed for cams. I have a motor for the roadster that was taken out of winning stock car in the early '60s, with all the above except the cam must be stock as the lift is .300, and it has stock, none adjustable lifters. The valves were stock dimension 1.500, and the block is slightly relieved to maintain strong compression. The heads and dual manifold were Tattersfield. The heads have a boss the size of the valve diameter just above the valves to maintain compression.
One place you may want to contact is Advance Engine in Wareham MA. Hans does a lot of vintage and race engines, and may be able to help locating the right valves.

Thanks everyone for your help.

russcc, I will give Advance Engine a call

Sounds like a schweet little engine.
Lets hope Pete can dig something out of the valve chart that'll work.
Martin.

Hi "32", you might be able to 'whittle" one out of a Pontiac valve, this is if you can even find this one??

The one I have listed shows a 1.920" x 4.842" x .343" x 30*. Good luck!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. The application is a '65/'67 Pontiac 326 V-8, and it is an intake valve. I may have some old ones in decent shape? Can't find out until Monday.
