Default 32 juice brakes

Just asking if there is a way to fit juice brakes 32 spindles without using the spacer ring ? I did ask Boling Brothers sometime ago and they were out of drums for their kit at the time ,so I waited till they were in stock, now they are out of hubs.
Someone had fitted juice brakes to our 32 at some time but we found the outer bearing had spun on the spindle ,so the bearing could not sit tight on the spindle now and there was always some wheel wobble no matter how tight the spindle nut was. Possibly due to the spacer pushing the bearing out some from the original machined surface , but cant say for sure on that one.

Use later spindles. '37-'48 work best and will bolt on.

Yes , but then I loose the top 32 steering arm and the spindle height is slightly different.
I do not want a bolt on top steering arm . I would prefer backing plates that accept the 3/8 bolts .

If you go with Boling Brothers I think they will provide the backing plates with the small pattern,s?? Early V8 Garage also makes an adapter plate kit that you can use the early spindle and Ford brakes. They also are dealers for Boling Brothers. Here is the number for them. 626 338 228 in W Covina CA

Original '39 & '40 Lincoln Zephyr are a virtual bolt on, SLIGHT modification to the spindle.

Ok thanks Tom , I was semi aware of that . So with 39 & 40 original lincoln brakes are the original 32 hubs used? And what drums are required?
Though finding a set may be an issue , and finding some that are still serviceable too.
The last time we were in Imperial MO we called into see Kurt McCormick .

Bob Wilson make direct fit brakes for 32 spindles. The hubs and drums could come from Speedway.
I used that combo but with 40 hubs.

No matter what juice brakes you choose; later hubs are used which require the inner bearing spacer.

If you want to update from the Lockheed to Bendix brakes and retain the early spindle pattern; Boling Bros has their Lincoln style brakes available with the small pilot hole and 3/8" bolts.

Their drums can be used with your existing hubs if they are the inside mount style.

But; it sounds like you really need to replace the damaged spindle as part of any change.

Thanks Rich. That’s the answer I need. I do have new (to Me) 32 spindles. Will get new inner bearing spacers from a trusted source, probably like Dennis Lacy.
It sounds like I can use my hubs that are on the 32 as they are inside mount and Boling bros backing plates and drums will all match up, and use their 3/8 bolt pattern backing plates.
I would have fitted some F100 brakes I have ,but they wont accept 32 wire wheels. Hence the thoughts to go the Boling way with the stepped drum.

I sometimes wonder why you would go to all the trouble putting on Hyd. Brakes, when the suspension system is so antiquated. Probably a stronger engine as well I realize that this improves the safely of stopping, but the ride and handling qualities make it less safe.. BY adding cross steering that would improve it as well as as ofter spring and shock as well. All this and many other modifications can be made and unless your building a muse-me piece a more valuable car. I recently had a ride in an early 52 ford PU wit a P/M front suspension and it was like a modern car. That might be extreme. I like to keep these old cars on the road as a daily driver at the least amount of cash .

Boling Bros makes a direct bolt on backing plate for the 32 spindle that does not need the large spacer ring but you still need the small spacer ring for the hub. I have a set on my 32 PU with 32 spindles and they work great. I've sold several of their setups to customers with no problems. You still need to do a little clearance grinding on the top of the spindle but it's minimal.

Thanks Gary. So you are saying I can use my 40 type hubs with their 32 small 3/8 bolt backing plates along with their drums? I like the bolt on deal as down under we are not allowed to weld or slot the backing plates.

Confirmed with Boling Bros the 40 hubs with the small spacer ring on the 32 spindles. Using their backing plates and drums.

Did you use '32 kingpins with the bearing on top?

Does this kingpin kit as supplied comprise of '37 kingpins installed upside down and thrust washers [not thrust bearings] installed between top of axle and bottom of top yoke on the stub axle?
