For what it is worth. I have had the amp meter open . check voltage on both points.

I had the same issue this weekend and quickly found the problem using a digital multimeter. Mine was bad contacts somewhere in the distributor. I disassembled and cleaned all electrical contact points and sure enough I started getting strong sparks again. Then I threw myself a curveball by not opening the gas valve. Took me a while but I figured that one out as well.
