Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
Looking at one for a friend and other than adding the toolkit over the front splash guard, I can't figure out where to keep the Jack, extra belts and bulbs, etc.
Doesn't have a rack or steamer trunk. Thanks

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
you can lift the rear seat and theres quite a bit of room under it
only trouble is that raising and lowering the seat wears the side panels out tom |

Yes, I believe you can remove the seat cushion and put stuff under the seat. There is not a lot of room, but enough to get some stuff in the space.

Good place for the crank , jack, & other stuff I don't need on a regular basis as my rear seat bottom doesn't tuck in place easily .

When u check out the car remove the rear seat bottom to look down in the quarter body pockets with a flash light for rot, half ass panel repairs etc...

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
With my '29 Tudor I removed the rear seat and built up a compartment with what looks like a 1 x 8. I put a piece of plywood on top of that for a seat. With foam cushions on that, it makes a reasonably comfortable ride for rear seat passengers. I have good shocks. Lots of storage room for spare parts, tools, and flea market purchases.

In the 5 years I have had my rig, it has been hand cranked once -- just to say we did it.

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
I seldom raise the driver seat so the tool bag, crank and jack all fit under it. I don't carry a lot of stuff with me but if I did, it would go under the rear seat.

But Ray since you are so concerned about me to inquire, I carry one of these when I venture too far from home

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
To carry a crank is good,, but if you think you might have a problem starting , look for a place to park where you can roll it off.

My Town Sedan was converted to 12v before I bought it but still had the 6v starter. 12v didn't seem to hurt the 6v starter. I have just recently put 12v Field Coils in my 6v starter. I have never had to use the Lithium Jumper on my car. Sorry roccaas. I didn't intend to hijack your thread. |

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
Under my 29'Tudor rear seat I kept a bottle jack, chocks of wood for the front wheels when jacking, a spare carburetor, distributor, head gasket and sealer, water pump, plugs, condenser, points, fuses and the original tool kit and also a modern tool kit with 1/2 inch drive sockets and drive handle. Also duct tape and wire. I kept the crank under front seat so it was handy if needed. Never needed any of that stuff except a fuse one time in 28 years.

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
In my Tudor, I put a box under the rear floor on the passenger's side (LHS). It's not like I could use it as a garage but I surprise myself often at how much I put in there. I have seen Model As with the battery mounted on the firewall. I put another tool box there - about the size of a battery and put lots more stuff in it. I have all the tool space I need.

I did pivot the driver's seat in order to slide into the rear seat (what a unique experience when all I'm familiar with is Rumble City), but I didn't notice any storage space. Not like the tray under the seat of my Cabriolet. (Hey look, I found some bullets...)

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
I have a Tudor I use the space under the back seat. I carry carb, distributor and a belt. The question I have has anybody installed the extra storage boxes that fits into the rear floor boards ? That the vendors sell.

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
In Dad's 29 Tudor we installed a Model A Basement which is a sheet metal box under the floor boards between the front and rear seats. He carries a lot of stuff in there, and still has room for more. The boxes straddle the torque tube with plenty of clearence

Have any of you ever installed a Tudor Basement? Snyder's 2015 catalog shows one on page A-185. I always thought they looked neat but my car is a TS.

Re: Is there storage under the rear seat of a Tudor?
700rpm, Post #7: "What do you do when you have to crank your engine?"
________________________________________________ For the purpose of 'Timing', you can use a special tool that turns the crankshaft - rotating it in either direction. You do this from the engine compartment so it is in the right location for a one-man timing operation. MacsAutoParts has this tool ("Timing Wrench" part # 28-56532-2) on page 309 of their 2014 catalog, or find it online; MacsAutoParts.com. Most likely other venders may carry it as well. For the purpose of getting your car started, without a crank (access hole blocked by tool box) - either park on a hill, or make sure there are a few people around who would like to 'inter-act with a living-history' automotive experience. i.e. - three guys pushing, while you 'pop' the clutch. I do it at car shows all the time to show the "kids".
