Top kit advice

I'll be replacing the top on my '29 Tudor and looking for advice from anyone that may have used the kit from Snyders. It's listed as including everything except the chicken wire. I'm wondering how the "hide'm" welt works. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Last night I placed an order on mac’s for their roof kit and just received an email saying that it is no longer available and my order was cancelled! I looked on Snyder’s but it came back as no results for any type of roof kits? Not sure how you found them?

I am not sure what all comes in a "kit" from one of the repro parts houses BUT you might have to peice it together yourself...

Top Materal only from LeBaron Bonney or Cartouche or whoever;
Padding from a fabric store;
Chicken Wire from Home Depot;
Hide'em welt from an upholstery store OR original type roof molding from Bert's.

Whatever you do...just make sure the area that you are tacking the top material down in is very, VERY warm so you get a good tight fit all the way around or when summer comes it will be flapping in the wind.

mikes has them listed as a kit but confusing as they appear to have two different kits with no pictures on their web site? Part numbers rck231 and a1884OD ? Might have to look at an alacart option, top, pad, welt etc..

I won't be installing it until summer, but thanks for the tip. I just want to see how it lays down now. I have a little concern about the bow at the door post. It seems to sit a little high.

Marco has an outstanding tutorial on a 28/29 Tudor top install. (Fordbarnyard) I suspect with the current turmoil with Labarron- Bonney either selling and or moving the normal vendors may not have access themselves to top material. Might try calling Classtique for advice.

For anyone that has already purchased the top material do not leave it folded. Any folds that sit for a spell will have a permanent crease. Roll the material to avoid any creasing.

Neither Mac's, Snyders or Mikes has the top material. Apparently the supplier can only make material 51 inches wide. Any suggestions?

There is none. I spoke with the supplier last Fall who ordered quite a bit of inventory (likely 1,000+ yards) at the narrower width and it is basically unusuable. They cannot afford to rerun the material until this is sold, ...and no one is interested in purchasing incorrect material, so this does not look good. I have 3 vehicles that need it to finish the restoration and I cannot get it either.

Yikes, I got mine last summer and didn't finish it, so the material has been folded up in my house waiting for this summer. I guess I will need to lay it out and see if the folds will smooth out.

>> Update>> At the end of summer, I dutifully took it out of the box the material came in and put it away (folded) in a way mice would not get to it. Frankly, I did not even think of the folds!! It seems so simple in hindsight. It was pretty creased. Laid it out flat and rolled it into a roll. I think I will let it sit flat on the floor in a roll for a while. Grrr.

You might try a hair dryer on the creases. I would suggest a heat gun but that might get too hot.

Dean if you want to double check your roof bow height, lay a sheet over the bows with some weights attached at the corners. Stand back and check the lay from all angles. Now you can see how the roof will look after the top is on and make corrections by sanding the bows to suit yourself.
