Default Best Ideas on Moving Cars and Garage

Any ideas on the most reasonable way to move several cars from California to Chillicothe Missouri and also my garage full of stuff. I Have a double axle car trailer. It seems like a large box truck would be best. Uhaul prices seem outrageous. I can make several trips moving but need a reasonable solution.
Wish I could find a used box truck cheap then later sell it once I'm moved.

I had some friends that bought a 53' dry van and hired a trucker to haul it for them.

There must be an outlet for used uhaul trucks as I see them minus all their logos all around Chicagoland in private hands. That might be a good option for you! My son rented a big Diesel straight truck for a move out of state and it was quite reasonable we thought and it was a one way rental

you might want to check ABF freight. I did this same operation in 2000 from CA to NC.
ABF drops off the 40' trailer at your house and you load whatever you want and put your lock on the trailer door. you have 3 days to load.
They (ABF) delivers to your new house and drop off the trailer. You have 3 days to unload.
very simple, very safe and very reasonable...I would use them again anytime.
I hired a 4 man moving team to pack the trailer and they really did well,
the un-packers on the receiving end caused me some problems, but it all worked out.

Uhaul used to prohibit transporting cars in their trucks. At least in Oregon. That policy may have changed in the last decade or so.

Your best solution would to be use 40 foot storage shipping containers . Fill them up and then have them hauled to your new location . I did this in the early 80 ties and again when I moved again in 2002.it was the best solution for me.
Just remember there are weight limits for over the road hauling . And depending on the amount of inventory and equipment it may require several or even more containers to achieve your move.
When you get to the final location you now have several options. Keep the containers and use them for always needed storage,or sell them off to recoupe the acquisition cost. The hauling is going to cost you no matter what. You also might look what it would cost to ship the containers by train, might be cheaper than over the road with the fuel costs involved.
And while you are packing it’s a good time to pare down the items that just don’t make sense to ship. Best of luck in your future endeavor of the move,Keep us posted on the results.

Take a load of your stuff one way, then advertise for a return load. You can make enough on the return loads to pay for your moving. Yesterday's Tractors website is a good place to get return loads.

Out of CA is very high due to the current wave of folks escaping.

Used box trucks are available here and often cost more else where. I know folks who have purchased a truck then sold it when done as well as using a full container.

What fits your needs and travel time?

Great Ideas! I think buying a used Box Truck is my best option.

I'm in no big rush. It will take me at least 4 trips as I have that many non running car to move. I will most likely buy a used Box Truck and pull my car trailer with one car.
Since it cost about a $1000 to have a car shipped and Uhaul looks to be several thousand one way its cheaper for me to drive myself once I have the Box truck.

If you're going to do this sometime in July, please let me know, I can pay you for hauling one back to California from Iowa. Don't want any empty trailer.
Very serious about this.

Even more, I could help drive on the way back.
My wife is from Chillicothe, my biggest question would be WHY? Gotta be a family thing, cause Chilicothe just doesnt seem to be a place to move to. Away yes, To?
Lots of Soybeans for sure.

I think we can work that out as I'm planning on doing this in several trips as I have a lot to move.
I have family there and I bought a 3000sq ft two story home with a full basement on 12.2 acres for 100,000.
