Re: Cam shaft bushings
Hey Chiliman, normally your machinist will have a source for those bushings. After all, he IS the one that will be align boring that to insert them.

Re: Cam shaft bushings
Pre hydrolic pinto bearings . Two in the center, eyebrowed for the oil and distributor gear.
The hardest part is finding a shop to align bore the cam line, which must be done regardless which way you go. Oversized new cam, or standard journals. |

Re: Cam shaft bushings
Bill (-and his boys) make a great camshaft however the issue is that rarely is the cam bores cylindrical when worn. Either way the bores really will need to be bored back on centerline.
Unfortunately, not all machine shops can do it. I have done it with my Tobin Arp machine but I am not sure if a Kwik-Way LBM can do it, --or at least do it accurately. Maybe someone who has a K/W LBM that has done it can tell of their experiences. |

Re: Cam shaft bushings
Here's a picture of my LBM setup to do cam bearings. Used centering cones and then did a lot of measuring to make sure the centerlines were accurate.

For future reference, do you provide this type service for others ? And, if so, do you need stripped down A/B block ? Do you charge the $450+/- mentioned above for this work ? |

Re: Cam shaft bushings
I really don't have facilities for shipping and receiving blocks. Do things for locals and guys that can bring stuff to me. Just do it as a hobby to keep me out of the bars in retirement.

Any GOOD workshop should be able to pickup the centreline and bore them properly. Making and fitting the bushes is not so difficult after that.
