Default Copper packing material for oil seal?

I was working on my hydraulic pump\ram (GarWood dump box) for my 42 last night to try and stop the oil seepage around the input shaft. It's not much, but figured since it was on the work bench i'd fix it now. So I took the fit off that goes over the input shaft and figured I'd find either a leather or rubber seal of some sort. It turned out its some kind of copper mesh packing material. Kind of like an SOS pad but finer. Seems to be in decent shape, but obviously its not sealing tight enough to the shaft. I cant seem to find anything to replace it with, I was thinking about maybe adding some felt packing material just to tighten things up just a little. Anyone have any other ideas? or have has anyone seen seals like this??

Thanks in advance for any info.

We used to get rope packing from the hydraulic shop for those old pumps. Came in a couple sizes; black kinda stuff woven with metal. Spiraled it into the packing box and snugged the gland down, then adjusted it further to stop leaking when running. Be sure to keep well away from the spinning PTO shaft.

Some older pumps were supposed to leak a little bit to lubricate the turning shaft and reduce heat.

I used furnace door rope seal to pack a tractor rear axle. Found a site online that had several different sizes.

What about oakum from a plumbing shop. I used it to pack a water pump on an IHC Green Diamond engine.

I'll probably try one of the local plumbing supply shops first. pump packing material would work I have a feeling.

Garlok came to mind as the brand of packing we used, googled the name and it looks like it.
