Default Dis-assembly processes

Team,

Just getting started taking my 31 Tudor apart. I'm taking lots of pictures and bagging and tagging everything as needed.

I have come to a cross roads need some advice from the group.

1. Should I pull the motor and trans before I remove the body?
2. Is it better to have the body media blasted or dipped to remove rust before I start the body work?

Mark

The vote is 6 one way, and half a dozen the other. The transmission shift tower, the pedals, and the column need to be off to easily remove the body.

Chemically stripping the body is the better method providing it is done correctly, and you have the ability to coat all the bare metal afterwards. Media blasting only cleans "line of sight".

I hate to follow Brent. He and Marco are among the resident experts, of which there are several. However, I'm wondering just how you are going to lift it. The old "Guy at each corner method" or the lift it up with a chain hoist? I used a backhoe with mine. Next, what are you going to put it down on? I made a dolly out of large old casters and 2x4s. Brent is right, try to remove anything that protrudes above the floor (Shift towers etc.) This allows you to lift the body a minimal amount in the air and lessens the amount it can swing. I confess, I left everything in place an lifted the body over it. It can be nerve wracking to see your body swinging 4-5 ' off the ground with only a very rotten wood structure keeping it together. You'll find that your eng and trans will all be much more accessible. Good luck! Terry
