As a collector of Massachusetts license plates I have helped antique car owners in Massachusetts find the plates they want that will be approved by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles for their antique car. I have at least 35 plates of each year of issue in my collection, and in 1964 and 1966 about 100 of each year. Prices start at $35 for a single plate of 6 digits and go up as the number of digits in the plate goes down. My lowest numbers are 2, 3 or 4 digit 1966 and 3 or 4 digit 1964..

YOM plates can be singles, or pairs, must be in original paint and legible at 60 feet. If no plate was issued for the year of your car the prior year plate is approved as it would have been the plate originally issued. Example, there are no 1965 dated plates as the 1964's were used two years, so a 1965 car would be OK with a 1964 plate. Semi permanent plates (aluminum with blue letters) began with the undated 1967 issue, were followed by red letters and then with green letters. The greenies are still on the road and are not YOM eligible
