I've found lots of help and advice from the Fordbarn and HAMB. Like 'em both (and a few other sites, too)

Sounds like human nature prevails. Lots of people like the new Fordbarn because they're familiar with the format. It was extremely foreign to me but I really like the new 'Barn format, especially the ease of posting pictures. My $.02 worth.

I've been on the barn for 6-7 years. Was lucky enough to get advise from some who have since passed on. I found the HAMB through this site and have enjoyed it and met some good people as well. The changes to the Barn have been great! I hope all the former Barners make it back, and welcome fellow HAMBERs!

In your "User CP", on the "Edit Options" page, enable the setting to automatically subscribe you to a thread in which you've posted. You can set it to subscribe w/o emailing upon new posts, if you wish. Subscribing to a thread will put a star in the icon that's to the left of the thread in the forum listing, allowing you to quickly determine in which ones you've posted (or manually subscribed).

That way you can look for in the sea of and .

i think you'll find the pace and mood of this place to be, in general, a little...more peaceful...than the HAMB. both have their place.

i like the quieter vibe here sometimes too.

to be, in certain ways, better than the HAMB. I have been on Ford Barn for many years, but always hated the navigation and classifieds layout.

For me anyway, there will continue to be a big separation mentally between the two sites.

Having moderated both sites, I would say the HAMB has less drama per user... For such a small group, the Barn can get pretty frisky. However, we are gonna tone that down big time.

I tried going over to HAMB several times a few years ago. I must not have followed all the stupid rules or something cuz a couple of guys got they're jollys yelling at me. I left and never went back. Fordbarn has been a hell of a help for me, over the years, both for getting parts, and information...slim

I've spent time on the HAMB because I have found it more "entertaining", something to do when work gets boring. The HAMB was the colorful side of hot rodding online, it’s social scene.

Truly, Fordbarn was totally stuck in the twentieth century and needed a change. Of course I would have liked to see it freshened, and at the same time it remain anonymous & simplistic.

I was really hoping Fordbard would have been a little less like the HAMB, with its posting ranks & member profiles.

I do have to give credit to Ryan for adapting the best parts of the HAMB to Barn. I can see that HAMBers love it, and some of the old ‘Barners are still a little wary.

But frankly, I don't see why both sites should be so almost exactly the same?

Post Script...

I used Fordbarn for no-nonsense, technical answers. Now that 'Barn's format is the same as HAMB, with ease of picture posting. I see it happening already --picture threads crowding in.
Eventually, Barn may only mirror the HAMB with the some guys showing off, and other guys posting "Nice ride" or "Cool".

Perhaps there should only be one site... HAMBarn

The HAMB covers traditional hot rods and customs.. The Barn covers Ford restoration... Two different focuses entirely.

I don't like to nit-pic. But, if that were true, then why is KIRK! posting "TECH HELP: '53 3-Speed Overdrive Trans in a '40 Tudor????"
Shouldn't that topic be relegated to the HAMB, for instance. Where to draw the line? --I know.

Truth is a lot of HAMB guys are excited about the new 'Barn right now. But they can't spend all their time on both, HAMB will eventually win. I'm hoping for Fordbarn's sake, the old guys adapt, I want it to do well.

I looked for, and talked with, Ford Barn guys for years about hot rod stuff. So did many people. I don't think it's the Stock Ford Barn. You should make sure that guys buying from the classifieds are only buying parts as stock replacements and that no one is buying or selling aftermarket soup-up parts like aluminum heads. Oh, wait, I've done both of those too.

I agree there is a fine line, but the two coexisted and were not secret to the other before.

Ryan. Actually a lot of the tech support on the old Barn was about adding power to the flathead and many members ran other than stock Fords. Some were big on the salt and even a few dragsters. I prefer the stock body with 40's performance mods. I also am an Early V8 member and use their site.

Id say a focus on restoration with a few side bars here and there that cover performance modifications for driveability and what not... I don't think anyone is sweating it too hard.

I think the interesting difference is the Ford only aspect. It shouldn't matter if your restoring, or hot rodding. This site is a valuable resource for anybody doing something to an old Ford. Which is better than doing nothing.
