Default Find Locktite Binding

Anyone have a source for original type interior trim/welting known as "Locktite Binding"? Trying to be authentic.
Thanks for your help!

You must make it. Top-level trimmers do it for their projects.

Where in the interior is this located? I've never heard the term used before. Shows how much I know.

That's Hidem binding - available almost anywhere trim supplies are sold.

Thanks for the explanation and the link Mike V. Yes, it is similar to the Hidem but it is distinctly different.

Yes, different but close. I'm sure not many would pick it unless they were looking for something to deduct points in judging. It wouldn't be easy to make either.

Ummmmm, you are correct that most people would not pick it, ....unless they were someone that knew better. Kinda like just use use a Tillotson carburetor because most people don't know what a Zenith looks like.

Locktite binding differs from hidem in where the nails go.

Hidem binding gets nailed in the center. So it covers evenly on either side.

Locktite binding is nailed like 2/3 the way up so it covers (in the case of the cabriolet) 2/3 the way down. Locktite also has the nasty habit of flipping up so when you do a car you need to dab in some adhesive to keep it down.

Vermin, my '29 Std Coupe, had NO rain gutters, used Hidem instead, goes on EASY & SMOOTH & nobody ever said, "YOU AIN'T GOT NO RAINGUTTERS"!! Used the chrome "spears" at each end.

My question(s) is this...

1. Which cars got what,..Locktite, Hidum and Wire-on..
2. And where?....inside or out..

I have NO knowledge of how it's used,...did I miss this in the JS?

I am also confused as what goes on what. I took pictures of Dean Drenzek's very early 28 phaeton at French Lick and it has hidem on the top where locktite would normally go, if it was used. His phaeton scored very high, so it must be OK, I guess. I believe Bill Strum did the upholstery and top. Below are some pictures of the top.

You already know this but for others, with an interest in the subject, there is more info here as well as a small section of the guidelines section 9.

Did you see his score sheets? Did he get full points for the trim?

Out of 20 points for "Top or roof of vehicles (open and closed). covered visors, top bows, top irons, landau irons, drip mouldings (only those bordering top fabric), fasteners, hardware, roof mouldings- correctness, materials, workmanship, plating."

How many points for the trim?

So I respectfully disagree with your statement, "...so it must be OK...". We really don't know.

Rusty and Mike,..

Rusty,..I have never seen these photos!...sure looks odd from the other photos that
I've seen of originals..?

Mike,..Good point about the "points",...BUT what about originality? Did it change AFTER
VE-28 and go to locktite, OR were they both used at the same time in the same place?
I know Dean looks on the Barn,..it sure would be nice to get a qualified answer. This is
why I started the other thread,...I'd sure like to see it in writing..!!
