Default Spare condenser at the coil

I read a post suggesting that a spare condenser could be mounted at the the coil mounting screw. The post detailed the procedure of how to mount the condenser and how it could be used as a backup if needed. I had the post bookmarked but lost it after a computer crash. My searches haven't located the post, is anyone familiar with this post?
Thanks

If you get the burnout proof condensers that A&L sells for the original distributor you will not have to worry about a spare.

Just above the first post in a thread there is a menu item that says "Thread Tools". Select that and then select "Subscribe to this thread". Then you can go to your profile to see all the threads you have subscribed to. I use this to keep track of threads I want to refer to in the future.

This alternate condenser mounting has been used for several years by my fellow club member Ray Leblond. The top sketch for a roadside fix. Mount the condenser in advance and have a jumper wire attached to it.

The bottom sketch is for a permanent condenser mounting on the firewall.

Note that the connection to the coil must be on the terminal connected to the points.

If you use this technique as a roadside fix, it is a good idea to remove the failed condenser from the distributor just in case it may be shorted to ground.

Yes you can do that. all you have to do if the old one fails is hook the condenser wire to the positive post of the coil if you have original positive ground. If you have negative ground put it on the neg post of the coil. You should also unhook the old condenser.

If using an oil filled coil with the terminals up, you can ground the condenser to the coil mounting bracket (with paint removed at screw, etc. for good ground contact) and shorter pigtail.

Over 25 years on the A&L condenser ----no need for spare, I have cooked it hot enough to melt solder, I think the casing will rust out before it fails ----but if you are using "modern" points and condenser get spares
