Default generator brush install

In rebuilding the generator which way do the brushes get installed. with tapered end of the brush with the rotation or towards it? Another way of stating it would be should the long end of the brush be toward the side of the communtator when the comutator is passing the brush, of should the long end be facing the communtator as it enters the brush? Thanks Tim

Be sure that the section of the brush with the slight radius sits flush onto the commutator for maximum contact.

For best performance the brushes should be ground to match the commutator.

The thinner brush fits in the third brush (adjustable) position.

Brushes should be sanded so as to present a full contact patch with the commutator before use otherwise they will most likely burn. Every generator manual illustrates this.

The shorter side of the brushes always faces the brush holder pivot post.

2 thick brushes for power, and the one thinner brush is for the adjustable field wire.

In an emergency, putin' brushes in my '49, pardon the expression, "CHEVY", we sat & "custom" ground them on the Cement Curb!
