As with most model A engines timing is simple. On the front of the engine is a funny looking bolt with a long tit. Remove it and place the tit in the timing cover hole and push in with the pressure of one finger. Turn the engine by hand. at T.D.C. on #1 cylinder compression stroke the tit will drop inyo a timing hole drilled in the camshaft gear. With spark at full retard and a test light accross the points you should be able to make the test lamp flash on and off by turning the distributor cam aginst the backlash of its drive gear on the camshaft.
