exhaust manifold
changed out the manifold today and was told by a friend to use ultra black silicone by permatex in place of the gasket put down a 1/4 inch bead let it sit for a couple of hours then installed it and no leaks he said a fellow that builds headers told him about it and that's all he uses I'm sold also put some where the donut sits on manifold and pipe

Re: exhaust manifold
Frank,
Have you had problems in the past with gaskets for the y block exhaust manifolds?

Re: exhaust manifold
The old-school fellow at the machine shop who rebuilt my 292 told me to not use exh gaskets so the manifold ears don't crack.

Re: exhaust manifold
I use the gaskets but put anti seize on the shiney surface against the head. No issues with leaks or broken ears (FEs).
