Default oops 46 ford battery

we bought a new 6V battery and without thinking hooked up the negative terminal as a ground, but it was supposed to be a positive ground. It still turned over and gave spark. Later, we switched the ground to positive and had the same results. could we have damaged something in the electrical system by using the wrong terminal as a ground?

Thanks

Possibly; the charging circuit needs polarising ; without doing so and inverting the leads it won't charge. However, you do not say how long you ran it or anything, so you might be still ok. With your battery wired up pos earth, try running it. If it charges, all is good. If not try polarising the generator. Brian
