Steering wheel

It's getting hard to get my knees under the steering wheel and hit the pedals on my 30 Coupe. Does anybody have an idea on how to raise the steering wheel a couple inches, is there a kit available?

I am assuming it's an early 30 with the clamp on the gas tank. If this is the case the clamp would have to be cut off. It's rivited onto the gas tank, late 30/31 had a different column clamp. Newer column is also 1 " longer because angle was changed to allow for more leg clearence. It can be done but not easily. I attached a picture showing both clamps

Could change the geometry at other end of column? How about modifying the seat cushion somehow ? Snyders makes/sells seat springs; they made custom sizes for one of our cars so possibly worth investigating.

The pic is to large to upload but it is in the service letters. The clamp is higher by about 3/8 of an inch on the late 30/31 cars which allows for the extra clearance. Column is longer to keep the steering wheel in about the same place.

Well, thanks a lot for drawing my attention. Went to look at my column mount and discovered gasoline stains where it had been seeping around the tank-to-clamp gasket. I haven't put any gas in it yet, so better to find it now than later.

Since a new gas tank, column mount, steering column and horn rod are definitely not in my future, I'll clean up the area with sandpaper and slobber silicone caulk around the edge and hope for the best.

Wish they had made that improvement earlier.

You may want to look into MaxGre epoxy , supposedly fuel resistant. Silicon and most sealants won't hold up to ethanol blend.

The pic I attached above is a 31 mount on a 29/30. You can put one on yours to take the stress off the tank. I am doing it on my 29, notice the shim between the clamp and the dash. I have attached the directions, sounds like a good idea for you to do

If you just need to move the seat back, there should be a piece of wood about 1 1/2 wide attached to the package tray. There should also be some brackets on the floor that can be moved. Remove or move those two things and you will gain some space. It is discussed in the service bulletins on page 257. If you also need the steering wheel raised, the suggestions above are good.
