Default Warning, Bad seller on Forum

I bought a pair of rear inner fenders of a Ford Barner. His ad said nice condition inner fenders NO RUST through.
He also said that his 4 door donor Ford's inner fenders would fit my 1947 Merc. convert.
He called me back to say he checked with some of his friends, and they would fit.
The fenders were shipped by Greyhound. took 8 days or so. Opened up the package, and there are rust holes threw on both inner fenders.
I called him to tell him and he said that that happen when he cut them off of the car. Don't you think he should of forwarned me? Or sent pictures, or reduced the $250.00 I paid for each inner fender?
His name is George Styron, his ads are from Missoula, Montana.
He has several ads on the Swap section right now.
Be very careful in dealing with this man. I paid via Square, I have contacted them to try to get some of my money back. He finally called me after 4 days, and said ship the parts back. My bodyman was hired to install these. He took them to his shop to repair the RUST holes and alter them to fit my car.George wouldn't call me for a couple of days. I paid $600 with the shipping, and I needed my car worked on. He should have called right away. BEWARE of what you buy from him. He is very bad for this hobby !!

Caveat emptor.
Another case of a wishful thinker taking the word of a seller rather than to do his own homework.
Even the description "NO RUST through" should have warned this guy off.
To top it off, the seller tells him to return the panels, but of course the shipping would be a killer, so the buyer is left with the conundrum of how to get even with the seller
....Bright idea! Bad mouth the seller on the Ford Barn. Sour grapes.

You bought them without even seeing a picture of them?

I do a few things and so far so good. Pay with a credit card thru PayPal. The credit card co will get the money back. Ask for pictures and Google his name and address to see what his house looks like.

I have an issue with with another looser from Missoula montanna. Kevin Littel was his name. Too bad there are a lot of nice vehicles and parts from that area of the country.

How in the name of God will knowing what his house looks like help??
You can tell nothing about a man's honesty by looking at his house. You can however tell a lot about a man by listening to his comments.

Ya know guys, I can't defend the buyer nor the seller as I simply don't know what exactly transpired. We all know (or should) there are at least three sides to every story. Your side, my side and the simple truth.

If it is a fact the panels were said to be "Rust free" then there is no need for photos. "Rust free" is just that : FREE OF RUST. There is no gray area here.

We will never know all the facts so c'mon, quit beating this guy up.

Mike, the seller said no rust through. Big difference from rust free, or even surface rust. Ya gotta read the exact wording of an ad 'cause even a born liar will choose his words carefully. I learned that fact from listening to politicians.

Kube, your three sides to a story is exactly what I try to get across to my family. And not judging a book by its cover.
Along with truth, politeness and respect, these are my simple rules.
The original poster Displayman, did get bitten by a dishonest seller, and has warned us of that fact. Thank you.
Martin.

Hmmmmm........That careful choosing of words is more-appropriately called obfuscation. DD

I did see pictures of the inner fenders on the car.
There was no visible rust throughs.
Never seen pics of inner fenders off of the car.

When he took them off of the car he said that they got damaged.
How can you ship anything that you damaged
Thanks for you input.

Mercury body parts are always a challenge to source. You can fix the rusty and/or damaged panels as long as there is enough there to fix. NOS parts for Mercs are near impossible to find.

You can't fix the guy you purchased them from. You also can't tell if a guys word is good until after the product is in your custody. It is always a risk when dealing through an electronic or indirect communications system like the phone or the snail mail. If you can see the product prior to purchase, it removes the risk. If you can't, the risk will always be there. Buyer be aware. If you received repairable parts then consider yourself luckier than many.

I didnt look for the for sale ad but were these the rear wheel wells that have to be cut out or the inner front fenders that bolt together?

I did read the entire post carefully and according to the buyer, it turned out there was some rust thru the panels.
