Default Oil filler tube

Looking at my oil filler tube, it has the center tube installed but not the outer tube.

Can anyone tell me if you need the outer tube for the vent to work properly?

if you run without it you will most likely have an oily mess around the breather cap

Thanks, when I pulled mine out to change the manifold it did not have the outer tube. I had been running the car for a few years that way but it seeped oil around the base.

Isn't that tube too short? I think it should be approx 6 inches high

frank, the short tube shown is the common later length. the tall one you are thinking of is 33-34 for sure, and then sorry i do not know when the short ones came in. 35 or 36 i'm guessing
