Default '37 Bellhousing?

This is a picture of the bell housing in my '35 Mod 51 truck.

The truck only has 17K miles on it but, the engine was replace with rebuilt, .040 over, block off plate block at some point. It has dome pistons and it has iron heads, although I have FT .080 over, pistons and FT aluminum heads that will go back on it.

The large letter is a "G" and the others look like C107

What is it?

If that was a brand "X", "C107" might be decoded as March 10, 1937 (or 1947 if it's a 24 stud engine). Casting dates are usually on plates attached to the core with screws, while casting numbers are usually part of the core. (Core may not be the proper term.)

You say it has block off plates, so it can only be one thing: A 21 stud '37-'38. None of the other info changes anything.
I take it back:
On another thread a day or so ago, a block has a large 78 on the bell, which identifies it as probably being a service replacement, so yours must certainly be a model year production engine, having only mold numbers on the bell.

That is the port for the oil pressure gauge and or oil filter line if applicable.Post a pic of the engine both sides with the hood up if you can.

How about just the drivers side for now. I all ready have that one.

It now has both heads off so, the right side will be that way. The air filter was mounted in the middle of the head, on that side.

Again, no matter what 21 stud heads are on it, if it has provision for water pumps, the block is a '37-'38. You said it does have block off plates, so that is that.

Well yes, I knew that, at least a '37 vintage (from earlier postings on here), specially after I pulled the heads and it having domed pistons.

What I was most interested in, was the lettering. The C107 (turns out to be the casting date) and the "G".

Does anyone know what the "G" may indicate? Foundry maybe?

Almost all of these foundry codes have been lost to history.

Thanks, Jerry.
I thought that there might be some "common knowledge" type thing but, it may not be lost to history, as the Ford Museum, still has drawings of most things, up to about '57 so, they could have that info, too. The Ford Museum is where I got my 21 stud drawings.

I have no personal experience with the Ford archives, but several people here are on the Barn that do have posted in the past that none of these type of records are available. They may add some direct knowledge, but it has always been my understanding that foundry codes for the most part are lost information.

G ainīt a to uncommon letter...so plantcode may be what it is...then to decode it...more of a challenge.
Added pictures of 4 different 21-stud engines i have in the shop.
The 78 one has the datecode 41 which would explain the hybrid of it.

Attached is a picture of the markings on my 21 stud 37/38 engine. No letters, just numbers on this example.

Zeke, very interesting. If the first letter is a I, it would make it Sept '37. I also note the oil port is different than mine.

All of these blocks were cast at the Rouge for US and some foreign production. Others were cast across the river at Windsor for Canadian and a lot of the Commonwealth production. They were mixed with the new 81A 24-stud block production in 1938 until production ceased on the 78 block. They may have made them longer in Canada but I don't know how long since they got involved with WWII in 1939/40.

Ford casting marks have no rhyme or reason to them until the 59 series came out in 1945. Canadian engine production had casting marks that meant something but they were usually near the front of the engine and not on the back.

Frnkeore, the oil ports on my engine are just like yours, one pointing up and one pointing out to the left side. The angle of the picture doesn't show the one pointing outboard.
