Tires 600x16 from other than Coker or Lucas?
Where do you buy your 600x16 tires from for the earlier flathead Fords? I try to buy from Coker or Lucas but the prices are very high to me, and the tires take too long to arrive. Any other source out there to use?

I've purchased both 600x16 bias ply and radial tires from Coker and, in most cases; they were delivered in a week. I too would like to find another option to buy tires for our antique cars/trucks, that cost less however, I think the old adage holds true, "you get what you pay for".

There is a difference between a cheap tire, which refers to the construction of the tire, and a reasonable price for a quality construction tire. I think $156 per tire, plus shipping, and waiting 4 days for delivery when I can drive there and back in 7 hours is too much. Anybody else have an alternative?

Do you have a Mr. Tire Store near you? How about a Battery & Tire Warehouse/Store? I would say check with Diamondback, but their prices may be about the same as Coker. Personally, I like to travel with the comfort of knowing I'm riding on good quality rubber.

If you drive there and collect them you'll save three days plus the shipping cost. Might spend a few bucks on gas though.

I bought 600x16 Coker tires last summer from Jegs for LESS than what Coker sells them for! They were recent stock and still wrapped. Oh yes, the shipping cost was less than what Coker charges.

Re: Tires 600x16 from other than Coker or Lucas?
Ok, please don't take this the wrong way and I am in no way affiliated to any of these folks...............
The folks mentioned here that supply tires to and for our cars did something no one else was doing.....saw a market and took the chance on that business to keep us supplied with pretty period correct, quality rubber. Remember, they are in business and in business to make money. They have overhead and all the costs of doing business. Guys, price out a current sized tire that you buy for your modern car and I think you will find similar pricing. I'm not talking about an inexpensively made off the wall brand but something you trust to roll on with your family on board. Most of us don't drive our old cars all year.....and our tires or at least mine (Firestones from Coker) hardly showed any wear after seven years of summer driving. So, I think we get value for our dollars spent. I'm also not saying you shouldn't shop around....that's just our nature but when all is said and done........... I think we are pretty lucky to have those folks around to supply us with good rubber. JMHO. |

For whatever it's worth.... I bought a set of Lester's from Universal Vintage Tire, Hershey PA, and have been VERY happy with them. Almost NO added weights to balance. I doubt if there is any 'price-advantage', though. Complete package, with tubes & shipping was in the 600-range.
