Rear wheel alignment
Has anyone dealt with the rear wheels not sitting centered in the rear fenders? The drivers side is close but the passenger side sits a lot more towards the rear of the fender. I had my rear end out and installed a different spring, I still haven't installed the radius rods but that shouldn't matter I wouldn't think. Car is a '30 Coupe, is there any way to tweak this?

Re: Rear wheel alignment
I think when you install the radius rods everything will line up.

Re: Rear wheel alignment
Is the spring bolt (square) head, sitting in the square frame hole?

Re: Rear wheel alignment
The way I see this is that there might be 2 reasons for the misalignment. (a) The wheel is out of position and (b) the mudguard might be out of position.
To determine which it is, I suggest checking a few measurements on each side and comparing them. To check the mudguard, I'd measure from a reference point on the chassis to the same point on each guard. Likewise with the wheels. It's difficult to imagine how either could be far out but after nearly 90 years of use and possibly accident damage, who knows. I'm sure other will have suggestions/advice.

Re: Rear wheel alignment
When you reinstall the radius rods I'm sure you will need to pull the rearend forword. A ratchet strap may be needed to pull the rearend forword. After you install the rods, then check and see that the wheels fit the openings!

I figured since they mount to the torque tube and rear end and its all one piece they would just bolt up easy. Are you talking about a strap to pull the spring forward? |

Re: Rear wheel alignment
I thought( there I go again) that the rearend was installed without the rods. Yes to the strap to help line up the rods, or maybe a helper. I had to push/ pull the rearend to aline the rods at the front. The bolt hole for the rods was off for me.

Re: Rear wheel alignment
Seems like if the radius rods need a strap to line up, the torque tube is bent.

Re: Rear wheel alignment
The front bolt of the radius rods should go right in without any alignment issues, unless something is bent.
I would guess the spring center bolt is not in the hole in the frame member. |
