Default No start, no run, sudden, flathead six

Looking for ideas. Engine has been running fine. Suddenly one day, it won't start. Checking a couple simple things, starter turns it over fine. Adding a 12V jumper (6V system) was no help. Cranking with starter, it sounds like no compression. Compression check (with spark plug gauge) shows zero compression on 5 cylinders, and 'normal' (around 100) compression on one cylinder (#4). Turning crank by hand, forward direction, and bringing #1 up to TDC, I see that the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire. This suggests to me that the crank is turning the cam, and distributor, as it should.
(It's got spark and fuel, no problem there.)
Looking for the engine guru's, engine 'whizzes' to see if anyone can come up with ideas on what to check for next. How can it suddenly have zero compression on five cylinders, and normal compression on one cylinder? Especially, when the day before, it was running fine on all six cylinders.

Which version of the 6 are you working with, 1GA, 2GA or H series?

I would guess the camshaft is broken near the front or timing chain bad

Pull the side cover so you can look at the valves ,maybe some stuck open ,it could be a head gasket also

Wouldn't that be something? This car is new to me, and I don't know any of its history. A bunch of goo would be something I would never think of.
