Default t10 speedo driven gear

Having trouble finding info on which replacement gear to get for my speedo cable. Has anyone run the t10 on a customline? Mine's a 54

What kind of info. Number of teeth or tooth orientation? There are two Tooth orientations - left and right The only problem is that I cannot remember which is which and if I remember correctly it is determined on what side the gear goes into the trans.

The proper gear is the one that uses the little clip to hold it onto the cable.

The speedo driven gear must mesh with the drive gear on the output shaft.

And then you go thru a chart entering axle ratio, tire size, etc.

Isn't there something about a later style gear not fitting an early cable housing?

The later style gear will NOT fit the early cable. Since it's T-10 which came out later than 1957, it uses the later type gear. You must get a cable that matches the speedo and the trans. The stock 54 cable will not. Some Mustang cables will work. Look on ebay (MUstang speedometer cables) and the pictures of the different cables will show you what you need.

As far as the gears, they are fairly cheap and you can get two or three to experiment with. This is what I did with my 48, 54 and 56 Fords.

Thank you all for your input. Still digging in. Replaced windshield and shocks, and have had a lot of run driving it in it's current state. Just trying to get dash all together and working at this point. then minimal body and paint

See if you get any ideas here- http://1954ford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3134

Call and ask the one URL. You may have to pull your cable to get measurements to replace and/or modify. Will worry about actual gears later. Which side of the tail housing is the cable on?

I would like to know the answer also.

port for cable is on passenger side of tail housing. Going to hit it with flashlight/inspection camera to see color/count teeth today.

Thumbs up Re: t10 speedo driven gear

While you are under there, see if there is an ID TAG attached still.

It will give you the the correct PARTS LIST to see what drive gear is in there. If no tag, any idea what year/model it came out of?

It looks like Drive gear is 7 teeth, on passenger side. rear end is 9 inch with 3.30 tag. From what I have been able to dig up, that means a 16 tooth LH rotation driven gear, right?

There is a formula to come to the correct gear(s). You will need REAR GEAR RATIO and tire size dimensions.

First the TRANS has to be positively ID'd. Otherwise it is just a guessing game.

The make correction ratio drives that can be installed in the cable linkage as well. A person can get the system to be pretty accurate but as soon as the rear tires are changed with something else then the accuracy will likely be off a bit again.
