1949 Ford Convertible sagging side rails
I just purchased a 1949 Ford Convertible. The side rails are sagging in the middle which will not allow the windows to be fully closed.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? |

I don't fully understand what you mean by "side rails", but the first thing I would do is get the car up and crawl under and check out the body mounts. If you are referring to the top, please ignore this suggestion.

Re: 1949 Ford Convertible sagging side rails
By "side rails" do you mean the frame side rails under the car or the folding top side rails into which the windows fit?

Re: 1949 Ford Convertible sagging side rails
I am referring to the folding top side rails. This car was restored some years ago and has no rust in it. The top looks to be newer .

I think this is the book. It has a section devoted to convertible tops. https://www.scribd.com/doc/249258710...ar-Shop-ManualAlso, there may be another person who has restored a 49-51 ford convertible that can help. Last edited by 19Fordy; 10-13-2019 at 05:49 PM. |

Re: 1949 Ford Convertible sagging side rails
I don't know about the 49 and later cars, but the 48 convertibles has eccentrics that adjust the side rails. Maybe the same on 49 and later??
