Gas line installation

I’m installing the gas line on my 36 to to gas tank and noticed that when I took the old gas line off the tank it looked like the gas line was inserted in the tank about 1/2 inch. Should the gas line be inserted in the tank till it hits the bottom.
I can’t see how else it would work drawing gas from the tank.

I believe it should fit inside the tank and just clear the bottom.

What you have witnessed is proper. The line protruded past the end of the fitting about a half inch.
Authentically, the ferule was soldered to the line. I do that on my new lines to avoid any possibility of sucking air.

Kube I guess I’m missing something. If the line only protrudes past the fitting about a half inch. How would it suck gas from the bottom. As the car uses fuel it would fall below the gas line and air would be sucking instead of gas. It’s like running out of fuel. Help me on this.

The 36 tank had an internal siphon inside of it. It was attached to the inside of the gas line fitting on the front edge of the tank. See x-ray photo of a 36 tank. The external gas line did not have to protrude inside the tank.
